Okay, so let’s say you have hosted VoIP for phone service. You’ve really done your homework, and you not only have a primary Internet connection for your company, you also have a backup Internet connection for your company. You’ve also gone a step further and gotten a really cool firewall that has automatic fail-over.

Let’s say your CEO is on a very important call, or maybe one of your top salespeople is on a very important call, and it’s riding on your primary Internet connection.

That primary Internet connection goes down.

We all know the bad part about that is, is that that call is going to drop. You’ll be able to pick up the phone and make the call again using the backup Internet connection of course, but they’re going to lose that phone call.

But the cool solution to that is that a very lesser known feature with a lot, or I should say some SD-WAN service providers, is VoIP or Cloud Session Reassignment.

The Best SD-WAN Vendors: Cloud Session Reassignment

What that means is that that phone call that you’re on, if you lose your primary Internet connection, within milliseconds it will automatically fail-over to the secondary Internet connection without losing the phone call or any other cloud session that you’re on. If one of your employees is using your cloud CRM software, they will barely even notice a blip on the map, and their session will stay active.

The way that happens is, because those type of service providers give you an SD-WAN appliance on-site, that actually connects to a cloud gateway, and the cloud gateway (from that SD-WAN service provider), is what is connecting to your cloud VoIP service, (or any type of cloud service that you have). It’s keeping that session active. Regardless of what Internet connection you’re on, that cloud gateway is the thing that’s keeping that session active. Even if you lose one of your Internet connection, the session is still active, and your second Internet connection just keeps it going.

It keeps it streaming back to your company, and it happens within milliseconds.
