The Best Business VoIP Phone Systems: Call Park vs. Call Pickup

September 26, 2019 Mike Smith

Your company is researching phone systems, and one feature you know you need is Call Pickup.

Or… is it called Call Park?

What’s the difference?

Well, there is a difference and it’s a big deal, because not all hosted PBX providers offer both. In this short video, AeroCom President, Mike Smith explains each and gives examples.

Your company is looking at purchasing a new phone system and one of the options you’re considering is a hosted phone system… or hosted PBX… or hosted VoIP, whichever you call it, (it’s all the same thing).

But one of the things you really want to understand is the difference between a Call Park feature and a Call Pickup feature. And the reason why that’s important is some service providers offer one and not the other… or neither.

So if your company is using either of those features today, you really want to make sure you understand what it’s called and how to explain it to a service provider so that: 1) You don’t get quotes from a service provider who can’t offer those features so you’re wasting some of your time; or 2) Even worse, you install a phone system that doesn’t have the feature your company needs and you don’t find out until afterwards.

The Best Business VoIP Phone Systems - Call Park vs. Pickup

So let’s get started. So, Call Park is when an incoming call comes into your business and say, you pick up the phone and it’s for John, and John is in the warehouse. Well, you can get on the overhead paging system and say, “Hey John, call on line one,” and you can put that call on Park, on “line one” and John (from any phone within your company), can walk over and see that phone and hit “line one” and talk to the person. That’s called Call Park. You’re parking the call until John can pick it up on whatever line it’s on.

So that’s different than Call Pickup. Call Pickup sounds very similar but Call Pickup is actually when an incoming call is coming in for John, who’s sitting at another desk (and you can hear the phone ringing), but you know John’s not sitting there and you want to grab that call because it’s important. You can actually use a Call Pickup feature to pick up John’s phone call for him (while you’re sitting at your desk). That’s called Call Pickup.

So if your company, again, uses either of those features, make sure you understand what the feature is called and make sure you also explain it to the sales rep you’re working with, just to make sure they’re on your same page and they can do that feature functionality for your company through their solution.

So I hope that was helpful. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. I talk about this stuff all day long. I love talking shop when it comes to phone systems, and I love talking about it. So give me a call. [email protected] 714-593-0011

I hope you have a great day.
