SD-WAN Pricing

September 9, 2019 Mike Smith

SD-WAN. It’s definitely a thing you should know about. You know this… but how much does it cost?

In this video, AeroCom President, Mike Smith, talks about how SD-WAN pricing can be affected by the type of architecture you choose. He also gives an example of the type of SD-WAN pricing you will want to search for, if your company has several large Internet circuits.

So you’ve heard about this SD-WAN thing. Well, how much does it cost?

My answer to that is it depends on the type of architecture of the SD-WAN solution you’re looking at.

So for instance, if you’re looking at an on-prem-only SD-WAN solution, some of those solutions you purchase outright, (you buy as a one-time purchase)… and you might have an ongoing maintenance agreement with a consulting company or something that’s going to help you maintain the hardware, but for the most part you’re just buying that hardware as a one-time fee and you’re deploying it onsite at every one of your locations. That’s one way.

Another way is you might pay a service provider a monthly fee based on the type of service that you have. So for instance, if you have SD-WAN deployed at every single site, they’re going to charge you for each appliance at every site on a monthly basis. And then on top of that, sometimes, if the service provider is deploying a cloud-enabled solution (where they’re doing some type of cloud optimization for your SD-WAN), they might be charging you a price based on bandwidth. So how much bandwidth your company needs determines your monthly price for each SD-WAN device.

SD-WAN Pricing

Some providers also say, “how much bandwidth are you going to use total, all sites combined.”

And then some service providers, even the cloud-enabled ones, charge you for the amount of circuits that your company is plugging into the SD-WAN service on a monthly basis. So each site, say each site has two circuits, they’re going to charge you a monthly price for the primary circuit and then a monthly price for the backup circuit, but then you’re going to get a lot of bandwidth included with that price.

So, the point is, SD-WAN can be priced-out a lot of different ways. It depends on how you’re deploying it and depends on what type of pricing best fits your company.

So, if you have a ton of bandwidth at every site and you’re using all that bandwidth, maybe you don’t want to find a provider who’s going to price you on a monthly basis for the amount of bandwidth you’re using. Maybe you want to find a provider who prices you per circuit.

So, I hope that helps a little bit, but I’m sure you have a lot more questions. Feel free to reach out on email or give me a call. I’m happy to answer any questions you have on any of this stuff. 877-465-3505. [email protected]

I hope you have a great day!
