Great Thanks from the IT & Telecom World

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, there is much to be thankful for! We live in the time of technology, where big data makes us more resourceful, fiber optics makes us faster, and the cloud increases our productivity.

We’d like to share a few thoughts from those in the IT industry, who also agree the world of Telecom brings great satisfaction and fulfillment. Ranging from altruistic considerations to sharp comedic observations, the remarks of these IT professionals give us all something to think about.

I’m Thankful for… Technology that Connects Us!

Melissa Maypole from Qustodio emphasizes the importance of staying connected to the ones we love.

“There’s a lot of talk today about how technology separates us from one another, and there is some truth to this. However, we can use the same technology that often serves as a ‘disconnect’ to bring us closer together. Facetime, Skype, and other video chat services give us the opportunity to talk face to face with friends and loved ones in real time, no matter where they are in the world.”

I, personally, will be Skyping with my family this Thanksgiving. Living across the country from one another makes holidays a little difficult, however, live video chatting has allowed me to feel a little closer to home.

I’m Thankful for… The Telecom Industry!

Brian Wesolowski, a Sprint associate who has partnered with Spiceworks, expresses his gratitude for the Telecom Industry as a whole!

“This year marks a quarter century that I have been working in telecom, and one thing that has been consistent throughout all that time is the industry’s forward-looking optimism.

We all know that each year we will be redefining the terms “fast” and “high-capacity.” The pace of IT and telecom technology advancement never seems to stop. It may come in waves and surges, but it always moves onward and upward. To me, that is what makes this industry so fascinating to be in and to follow. There aren’t very many industries that have that kind of confidence, that ongoing belief that we’ll be accomplishing much more next year and even more the year after that.”

I second Wesolowski in his appreciation for such a fast-paced, ever growing work environment. I love being surrounded by forward thinking, innovative individuals who are eager to learn and break new ground. Working in Telecom allows me to stay actively engaged in the news discoveries around our world.

I am Thankful for… The Large Incumbents!

Doug Dawson is an outspoken consultant from the Telecom Solutions agency, CCG Consulting. His blog postings always bring light and laughter to his audience, especially those in the industry. He brings up a very relevant, yet comedic item on his gratitude list.

“The Large Incumbents. As a telecom consultant I am grateful for the large incumbent providers like Verizon, AT&T, Comcast and Time Warner. It is the behavior of these large companies that gets me a lot of my work. These companies continue to do things that annoy their customers, overcharge their larger customers and antagonize smaller carriers. So I get a lot of work helping people work around the big carriers.”

As a telecom and cloud solutions agency, we too, help businesses in need of alternative solutions. As for the large incumbents, we can’t live without them!

I am Thankful for… Technology that Transforms Education!

Transforming EDU, a company featured in the Living in Digital Times International Conference each year, expresses a heartwarming vision for our world’s future. Our forthcoming success lies in the hands of generations to come. The educational system these children are raised in will significantly alter the possibilities of our world’s future.

“Technology continues to transform education in innovative, often disruptive ways. The rise of online personalized education, MOOCs, mobile learning, and the flipped classroom are also altering the economy of who’s creating the new education infrastructure. Technology is shaping the education landscape.”

As a recent student, I have seen the educational system change before my eyes. My notecards are now stored in a mobile application on my iPhone and my group projects are all shared via the cloud in Google Drive files. With a public library card, I am given free access to multiple devices such as nooks, iPads, editing software, and even a full recording studio!

Needless to say, the IT & Telecom Industry plays a significant role in all of our lives. Let’s stop for a moment and take the time to reflect upon the ever evolving advancements that bring us life’s greatest luxuries!
