Your company is looking into penetration testing, and you’re wondering where to start. Well, a good starting point might be watching some of my previous videos in addition to this one. It might be some of the videos on gray box testing, white box, black box testing.

Also, take a look at the video I did on where I feel penetration testing really falls in the scope of things in terms of your cybersecurity strategy. I really feel it falls towards the end of everything. It should be one of the last things you do, but some people may disagree with that. But go ahead and watch that video. That might give you some of the insight that I have based on my experience.

But today, I wanted to talk about the four different categories of penetration testing, and that would be external, internal, social engineering, and physical security. Today specifically, I wanted to explain what I consider physical security penetration testing.

But before I get started, really quick, if you want to know which penetration testing companies your organization should be quoting, don’t Google it, just email or call me (714.593.0011), right now and I’m happy to help.

What is Physical Security Pen Testing?

Okay. What is physical security penetration testing? Well, it’s just what it sounds like. It’s when you hire an outside company or somebody who’s external of your company to go ahead and run tests to see if they can break through the security of your security cameras, your physical security, whether it’s entry access systems, things like that. So any type of IT infrastructure that you have that’s creating a physical security to your actual organization’s headquarters facility. Say it’s [NIK 00:01:42], if somebody wanted to get inside of our facility and get information that could help them exploit our company, maybe you have a high profile company and maybe they can’t get in through the internet, but maybe they can just walk in a door in the middle of the day and access information by hand. So things like that.

Think in terms of that and when you’re looking at, hey, what type of penetration testing should we need? Should we need external, internal, social engineering, physical security? Make sure you cover the physical security aspect as well. Because, like I said, they can get access to information over the internet if they just know where to look, and sometimes they’ll know where to look just by walking in your building in the middle of the day and asking somebody something in the parking lot even. Think about that and include it in your penetration testing if you feel that that might be an area of weakness or something you definitely need to test for within your company.

More questions on Penetration Testing?

I hope that was helpful. Again, if you want to know which penetration testing companies are the best fit your organization, there’s hundreds, if not thousands of options out there. Don’t start Googling it. You’ll get lost. It’ll take you forever, and you won’t find the right ones anyway. This is my job. I’m a broker for all these companies. My job is to help you find the best companies to quote for your organization quickly. I have been doing this for 19 years. I know all the organizations inside and out. Just reach out and contact me. I’ll ask you a few questions, pair you up with the right vendors to quote, and actually introduce you to great people within those organizations to get the quotes from. They’ll do some presentations for you, all that good stuff. I’ll oversee the whole process myself. The nice thing is, I won’t charge you a dime for it. Those service providers pay my company a broker fee. So no excuse, just reach out via email or give me a call (714.593.0011).
