Don’t Let Anyone Take You Down, Protect Yourself with DDoS Mitigation

Did you know that as of 2014, DDoS attacks have significantly increased to an average of 28 per hour?

Sounds pretty scary when you’re not anticipating an attack on your website or servers and then one day it happens. The scariest part about all of this is the fact that if you can’t sense an attack before it happens your company could be down for multiple hours if not days.

Well, I’m sure you already know how devastating a DDoS attack can be and are probably just hoping and praying every single day that it doesn’t happen to you. What if I told you that there is a much better alternative than chewing on your fingernails and spending every moment of every day sitting on the edge of your seat from fear that your servers could be wiped out any minute? DDoS mitigation can be pricey but the benefits to this niche service are priceless in the end. The biggest advantage to having a DDoS mitigation service either from your internet service provider or outside provider is the peace of mind that comes with knowing your company will never be down for more than a moment if that when attacked. With this service in place, your servers and/or website will always stay running because your DDoS mitigation service provider will be protecting you from behind the scenes and on the lookout for an attack so that they can prevent it from even reaching your servers.

Now you’re probably thinking, “Well I don’t need DDoS because I have a firewall in place that will block anything bad that tries to come through”. False. Yes, a firewall does protect your server but what you have to remember is the fact that hackers are aware that almost everyone has a firewall and stay one step ahead of you all the time. A firewall is no match for the volumetric attacks that are typical of most hackers and will not sufficiently protect your business. Alright, so now you’re probably a little peeved with me because clearly what I’m saying makes some sense

BUT suddenly you remember that you have a backup internet connection with a different service provider for the eventuality that your primary connection experiences an attack. Well, I hate to break it to you but once again, hackers are out there to do damage and come with their extensive research in hand. More often than not, a hacker will have the IP address of both your primary internet connection as well as your backup.

Now what do you do? Your firewall has failed you and your backup connection has also been wiped out. You have no where to turn.

This is why YOU need DDoS protection.

There are two different types of DDoS mitigation service providers: proactive service providers and reactive service providers.

The biggest difference between the two is the level of involvement that you want to have with the entire operation or rather the amount of responsibility that you would like to carry on your own shoulders in protecting your servers. Proactive service providers keep an eye on your servers and/or websites at all times and spring to action without you even having to know when they sense an attack. They begin filtering immediately in order to stop a mass wave of bad traffic from hitting your servers. The other type of service provider provides reactive service in which it is your personal responsibility to inform your provider when you think that there is an attack taking place. In this scenario, a majority of providers have a 15 minute guarantee, in which they make a commitment to their customers to begin filtering an attack within 15 minutes of being notified that its taking place.

Okay, you might be feeling overwhelmed and questioning whether or not DDoS is for you and even further, how to even begin searching for a provider that meets your needs. Well, no one said you have to be in this alone. Click below to contact our team, here at AeroCom and let us help you figure out what’s best for you and your business.
