Considering Microsoft 365? Here is the first place to start!

ChecklistOne of the most common complaints we hear about Microsoft 365 is the migration process.  It can be complex, require multiple time consuming operations, and be out-right frustrating. Just as a quick reminder, implementing any large infrastructure change is going to take time and effort. Take a breath, remind yourself it is worth it, and prepare.

The best way to minimize the amount of time and effort you will have to put into this migration process is to plan for it. A great deal of frustration comes from individuals who are mid-switch, or those who “wish I would have thought of this before!” If you are just now considering the switch to Microsoft 365, then this is perfect for you.

Our objective is to help you avoid deployment delays by considering a few facts beforehand. These simple considerations will save you a significant amount of time.

Network Capacity:

    • Know the necessary bandwidth that will be required for all of your data.
    • Make sure you have bandwidth-testing tools available to calculate migration velocity; you will need this especially for your mailbox data.

On-site Infrastructure Service Requirements:

Tools and Testing for Mailbox Migration:

    • It imperative to know how much data is being handled by your corporate mailbox. This will ensure you are fully prepared to handle all mail traffic through Office 365.
    • You may want to consider purchasing third-party email migration toolsets. This will require you to identify the necessary hardware requirements.

Mobile Device Deployment:

    • Plan for any changes that may be required to your organization’s mobile platform.
    • For all mail-enabled devices, determine whether they can be set up to work with exchange online. If so, Exchange ActiveSync enables users to synchronize their mobile phones with their mail in the cloud.
    • Work with Exchange Online by using Exchange Web Services (EWS).

Another valuable service consideration is creating and scheduling regular communication to end users to notify them of your transition to Office 365.  Not only will this excuse you from any delayed responses or unavoidable down time, but this will also allow you the opportunity inform them of new services and capabilities that will be available to them with Microsoft 365.  You may even want to provide them with instructions regarding how to use these services what actions may be required on their end.

Overall, you are making a positive change that is going to benefit you, the company, and all of your users. Seize the opportunity to make this as easy and smooth as possible for everyone involved. Proper planning and thorough communication will allow this experience to be exciting and rewarding; just as it was designed to be.
