AI is reinventing the way we work
Okay, well, first of all, I want to give you a round of applause. Good for you for looking into enterprise AI. It is the way of the future. Everything I see about AI shows it’s absolutely going to reinvent the way we work. It’s going to be like when the internet first came out—that’s how big it is, and how much change it’s going to create. So good for you for being ahead of the curve and looking into this up front.
But how do you get started? There’s so much confusion out there, and it seems daunting. There are so many things to think about. Well, here are the five baby steps for getting an enterprise AI solution for your company and starting to get your feet wet with enterprise AI.
Introducing Five Baby Steps to AI
Number one is purchasing a multi-model secure AI solution. So what do I mean by that? Let’s break it down a little bit. First, multi-model. There are many different LLMs out there. Watch my video on the different LLMs and the strengths each one has. Until 5 to 10 years from now, you probably won’t even know all the ways your company will use AI. So why corner yourself into one LLM? Get a multi-model solution so your company has access to all the major LLMs and can use them for everything from coding to creative writing, marketing, and sales analysis. Multimodal solutions are actually the most economical for medium to large-sized companies.

Step 1: Choose a Multi-Model Secure AI Solution
Multimodal access will definitely save you a lot of money. So that’s number one.
Also, you want an option that protects PII—all that private information. You want a solution that automatically detects PII and either prevents an employee from submitting it into the AI platform or blurs it out. Your multi-model should also have role-based access so that you can give different employees different permissions based on their roles.
Your AI solution should also be SOC 2 compliant, meaning they must document and prove that they are secure.
Your multi-model solution should also have single sign-on, so it’s automatically provisioned when you add or remove employees. This makes life easier since you shouldn’t have to program your enterprise AI separately from everything else.
It should also provide logs of activity so you can track employee queries for security purposes.
And lastly, your multi-model secure enterprise AI solution should put it in writing that it will not learn from your company’s data. You do not want AI models learning from sensitive employee information.
Step 2: Train Employees with Internet-Based Use
Now, once you’ve purchased the right solution, step number two is to give it to your employees to use with the public internet. It’s secured, it’s not learning from company data—just let employees start using it. Before connecting to your company’s own data, let them practice with internet-based use cases. Then, check in once in a while to see how they’re using it. You can’t really predict in advance how employees in different roles will use AI until they’ve had hands-on experience.
Step 3: Connect AI to Your CRM
Step number three is to connect your enterprise AI solution to your company’s CRM. After you’ve purchased a solution and allowed employees to use it on the public internet for six to eight months, you can then integrate it with your CRM. This allows your sales team to ask questions like: Who’s our biggest customer? How much money do they spend with us? How often do we contact them? Can you give me a report on that? That type of functionality will start driving more value from your AI solution.
Step 4: Prepare a Data Lake for Company Information
Step number four is to begin moving your company’s data to a data lake, such as SharePoint. This centralizes your company’s information so AI can access it. SharePoint is one of the most popular methods of storing data for AI. Do this while employees are still getting used to AI through the internet and CRM integrations. This way, when you’re ready, your data will already be in one place, organized, and accessible.
Step 5: Start with HR Data Integration
Step number five is your first step into connecting AI to company data—HR is a great place to start. For example, make HR documentation available for employees to query. That way, they can ask: Do we have Juneteenth off this year? What holidays do we get for Christmas? Is orthodontics covered in our dental insurance? Instead of pinging HR or digging through documents, employees can quickly query AI. This saves both employee time and company resources.
Beyond the first five steps
After those five steps, your company will already be far down the AI path. You’ll also have gained enough insight to determine what step six should be. So, those are the five baby steps to get started with an enterprise AI solution for your medium or large company.
