3 Reasons Your Hosted PBX Service is Lagging

May 29, 2014 Aerocom

With the popularity of Hosted PBX telephone service, the number of providers available is on the rise. As you may know from your own Google search, a Hosted PBX is a service where the call platform and other PBX features are hosted at the service provider location. A business will connect to the provider for the service through IP.

This type of service is definitely the future for small and medium sized businesses because of the great cost savings and high productivity results. One of the biggest issues you may have encountered is the poor call quality of the newer VoIP-based systems. You may think it is the fault of the VoIP Technology and regret making the change. But that may not be the case.

Are you experiencing issues with your call quality or anything else with your Hosted PBX systems? Here are some reasons why your Hosted PBX system may be lagging.

1. Poor Internet Connection

Many businesses (maybe even your businesses) don’t realize that they do not have the sufficient bandwidth to support their hosted PBX service. Bandwidth is the speed at which data is transferred. You must have a reserved bandwidth of at least 80k per simultaneous phone call. Make sure that it is at this level since bandwidth is the maximum capacity that a connection could move data,Frustrated-man-on-phone

Your latency must not be greater than 100 milliseconds and also your pack loss should be less than 1%. Latency is the delay at which information is requested and when it is received which is measured by seconds or milliseconds.

2. Poor Quality SIP telephones

Usually, SIP telephones that are manufactured are of good business quality. However, there are phone manufacturers that make inferior products which can result in poor PBX service.

Even if your hosted PBX provider guarantees it will make no difference, I advise you to purchase high quality telephones.

3. Low Quality Hosted Provider

If you have already researched and troubleshot all the possible technical issues without any results, you may just have a low quality hosted PBX provider. Ensure that you choose to work with a trusted provider to get the full benefits of the VoIP technology. Stay away from the high-pressure and new “unbeatable price” providers because they may not even be around in the near future.

Instead look for a quality service provider that may have services for other technologies such as Cloud storage or Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). You may need to read reviews online to see if the customer service is up to par with your business.
