Corporate Cellular Free Agency

April 6, 2015 Aerocom

I heard something very cool, but very subtle the other day, when talking to one of our service providers. Make sure you read this carefully, especially for you IT Pro’s who have an AT&T Wireless corporate cellular plan.

If you’re an IT Pro for a mid-size company with a corporate cellular plan that has hundreds or thousands of devices (i.e. phones, air cards, etc.), have you ever considered changing providers for cost savings… but then SLAPPED YOURSELF IN THE FACE when thinking about the reality that changing out devices or even device settings for that many devices is suicide?corporate cell phone

The soft cost of the time spent will kill the cost savings, right?

Not any more, my IT Hero’s. At least if you currently have AT&T.

The Skinny

AT&T recently signed up a couple hundred service providers to a new re-seller program called the AT&T Partner Exchange.

Yeah, I know… companies have been reselling the large cell phone companies for a long time but this is DIFFERENT. How?

  • This is for corporate plans (i.e. hundreds or thousands of devices under a single contract). Most current resellers are for residential service.
  • If you currently have AT&T, you can switch to an AT&T Reseller with zero changes to your devices. By ZERO changes, I mean ZERO. You don’t have to “activate” any devices with a new service PIN, nor do you have to change the Access Point Name (APN), in order to use data.

The only things that change are:

  1. Your bill has a new name on it
  2. Your bill is lower in cost
  3. Your customer service is now though the reseller, and not through AT&T direct

Nostalgia

This reminds me of back in the 90’s when we could sell a company an AT&T reseller for their local POTS lines and the company didn’t have to have new lines installed. Their billing would just change. That service, called UNE-P, was a huge hit and saved a lot of small businesses a ton of money by allowing them to lower their local phone line bills with zero time invested in any physical change within their phone room.
