5 Questions to Ask Your IaaS Provider!

We all know what the cloud is and we also know that it’s planning on sticking around for a while. Now I’m going out on a limb here and assuming that you know what IaaS is. For those of you who don’t, its pretty simple, Infrastructure as a Service or an IaaS provider helps your business if you are in need of key networking components such as storage, servers, power etc. They charge you on a usage basis, which means that you are saving money annually when it comes to your IT bill. They manage your key components that make your company successful at their own data center.

So essentially it’s all through the cloud, meaning over the internet. Pretty cool huh? Well as more and more companies are switching to cloud based computing networks, how exactly do you know what provider to go to? What kinds of questions must you ask to find the right provider for you and what are some commonly asked questions? Well, there are two things you should probably do. Knowing the key components that you are looking for within your company, will not only help narrow down which provider is best for you, but what the best pricing will be as well.  Do your research and make sure that you are only investing in features that you will actually use.

2. What are you expecting from your provider?

Essentially, how much freedom are you looking for?  Keep in mind that you are allowing a provider to run your network so how much do you want them doing for you?

3. What is your budget? 

Know exactly what you need, find out what your budget actually is and how much you are willing to spend.  This will help find you the best fit and best provider for you.

4. How often will you be using the services?

You may need to do your homework on this one.  Find out on a month to month basis how often you are using certain components.  Find out how often you will be using the service to help save you money. Maybe you will want certain features one month and not the next? Knowing this and managing that will help save you money as well.

5. How does your provider back up the data?

In an IaaS provider environment, data will be stored across multiple sites to ensure access at all times in the event of an incident occurring.
