Quick and Easy with a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure!

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is software technology that separates the desktop environment and associated application software from the physical client device that is used to access it.

Desktop virtualization can be combined with application virtualization and user profile management systems, or “user virtualization” to provide a desktop environment management system. Users can access these virtual desktops using their existing PC’s, eliminating the need for workstation hardware upgrades and enables the user to switch between operating environments.

This means that all components of the desktop are virtualized, which allows for a highly flexible and much more secure desktop delivery model. This is also safer for your data because it supports a more complete desktop disaster recover strategy as all components on your computer are saved in the data center and backed up through maintenance systems. However, if a user’s device or hardware is lost, the restore is also much less complex and more straightforward because all the components will be presented at the login from another device. Since no data is initially saved to the user’s device, if the device gets lost, there is much less of a chance data can be retrieved or compromised since login must be accepted for information.

VDI offers clear benefits:

  • Every desktop can utilize the same image – operating systems as well as installed applications which reduce administrative and support costs
  • Processing moves from individual workstations to a DVI server – there’s no need to upgrade numerous PCs to meet the new operating system’s minimum hardware requirements
  • Hardware costs can be more easily managed, since almost everything will reside in the data center
  • When problems occur, you’ll generally have just one system to trouble shoot
