It’s here and it’s Microsoft’s cloud version of Office. With the new Office 365, you connect via the internet or what we like to refer to it, as the cloud. You can set up your account, make payments, download files, and most importantly allow your employees to work remotely from anywhere at anytime allowing your company to expand and increase productivity. Although there has been a lot of hype surrounding the idea of 365, and you may be ready to invest in the solution, take a second and allow us to explain to you a handful of tips and things that you may want to know before making the switch.

The first thing is to look at all of the different faces of Office. Many of us have been using the desktop version for years and have become accustomed to the different features and applications that it offers. Office 365, is a recent addition to the family of Microsoft. It is a subscription-based solution that offers all of the Office features but in the cloud. Office 365 offers functionality with the web-based convenience that supports multiple devices at anytime.

Next, you need to make sure that your current system can support Office 365. Before investing make sure you are compatible. 365 require that you use Windows 7 or 8, and Mac users need OS X 10.6 or a later version. During the installation process you’ll also need internet access to install the program and to activate and manage your subscription that is once a month. You must know that with an older system you may face significant upgrade costs before you can move to 365 or face that the program will run very slow.

When switching anything to the cloud, you tend to wonder whether or not it will be secure. Office 365, actually offers the same user-level security options and Trust Center as the desktop version, and the users will have a reasonable amount of security at their level.

Lastly, you may be wondering if Office 365 runs offline as well. The answer is yes it can. Although you must connect to the internet every 30 days to maintain your subscription, but 365 will automatically let you know when it’s time to connect.

Office 365 may be on your radar. But if you work from more than one location, you use different devices to access Office files and if your business supports multiple users and you want to keep them on current version, then Office 365 is the right option for you.
