Security with Office 365

With the addition of Office 365 applications to the iPad tablet in March, users are even more curious about the overall file security of Office 365.

Rajesh Jha, corporate vice president of Microsoft office Services and Servers, announced that Microsoft is moving past the “single encryption key per disk to deliver a unique key per file”. SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business will ideally be turned into high secure content repositories where they will each have their own “unique key”.

The new encryption technology will be available for deployment start this July. The security of Office 365 on mobile devices will be receiving an upgrade with the latest features with Windows Intune. The overall security for mobile devices will be enhanced and applications such as Office and OWA (Outlook Web App) will be more secure to access corporate data. Windows Intune will help define IT policy with applications such as Excel, OneDrive, and PowerPoint as well.

The overall security guidance of Office 365 is being improved with the launch of Office 365 Trust Center Website where users are able to view blogs and videos to help administrators lock down their environments.
