Ethernet Over Copper

Big Internet with a Small Cost

Businesses today are seeing increasing need for bandwidth – not just for downloading, but for sending information out to the Internet. This bandwidth, known as upstream/upload bandwidth, is essential for business applications like videoconferencing and cloud computing. If you need reliable, fast upload and download speeds, Ethernet over Copper (EOC) is the broadband of your choice. As your company grows while utilizing a T1 for Internet access, you may be experiencing some lag time with your connection. If this sounds familiar, it may be time to evaluate upgrading your connection to EoC. It is a powerful technology that can help get your business connected with symmetrical high speed connectivity using the existing copper network. EoC fills many key business requirements at an affordable cost.

How it Works?

Ethernet over Copper is an Internet connection with speeds from 1M – 100M. It is deployed over five plain old telephone service (POTS) lines and handed off to the customer with an Ethernet cable. The speed available depends on the location of the business, the condition of the copper wires and the distance from the nearest Central Office (CO).

What’s in it for you?

File Transfers. Upload large files quickly, easily and securely. There is nothing worse than waiting for files to upload or download. Any business that is sharing large files among associates, clients, and/or employees needs to have fast load time to keep business flowing. EoC can offer speeds over 100Mbps (symmetrical), which ensures fast upload and download time for your staff and your customers.

Wide Area Networks. In addition to using it for public Internet access, it’s also ideal for connecting multiple offices in a WAN, either through the use of Internet access and a Virtual Private Network, an MPLS network or a Point to Point network.

Cost Effective. Internet is a less expensive technology for service providers to deploy. EoC typically runs over five individual copper pairs (which is the same cost to a provider as a single analog phone line). With little equipment needed on installation, the startup cost is lower than many other high bandwidth technologies.

Very Reliable. EoC is ironically more reliable, with less downtime than other Internet technologies, such as fiber and T1, due to the fact that service providers often deploy extra copper pairs for redundancy.

Experience speed and consistency. The bandwidth is dedicated to your business and is not shared with neighboring customers of your provider. This ensures outstanding and steady performance levels.
