What is Primary Rate Interface (PRI)?
PRI is an end to end digital circuit that enables traditional phone lines to carry features such as voice, data and video traffic. It uses techniques that carry more than one channel within a single circuit.
What size businesses typically invest in PRI?
The channels are normally used by medium to large enterprises with digital PBX’s. The 23 B-Channels can be used flexibly to meet any special need such as video conferencing. The user is hooked up directly to the telephone company central office so the incoming call will never be lost and your business will increase productivity.
What are PRI Channels?
PRI consists of 24 channels. 23 of those channels are used for voice and the 24th channel or the D-Channel is used for data signaling.
What is Direct Inward Dialing?
One of the unique features about a PRI line is that your service provider will offer you 100-500 numbers which can be used by outsiders to call the extension directly instead of having to go through an auto-attendant.
Call Hunting?
Without PRI if one number is busy, the caller will have to dial another number manually. Call Hunting is where the incoming call will land on any channel that is free instead of having to call a specific number so you won’t lose any business or productivity from your employees.
