How to Practically Implement ITaaS

Many CIO’s or IT Directors may have heard of IT-as-a-service (ITaaS), but may not understand how beneficial it could be to your current IT infrastructure. ITaaS has been in the shadow of its siblings including SaaS, PaaS and IaaS, when in fact all private and hybrid cloud initiatives are all in fact driving IT to this new solution. In case you are in the know and ready to make the switch, here are five simple and practical steps that you can take to get started with ITaaS!

1. Pick your services: Understanding that you don’t have to move everything to the Cloud and that you still have the ability to monitor and manage your own IT is important. Start by picking out the initial set of services that you would like to deliver in your new ITaaS model. The key to picking from the ITaaS menu is to pick a subset of services to start with and move slow.

2. Define the offerings: In addition to the different platforms and configurations, you will need to determine service and support levels that you need to offer. How many VM’s could our users potentially need to spin up and how quickly? You’ll need to have these answers.

3.Price the offerings: Next, you’ll want to price your services and what you’re going to charge your customers. Pricing must reflect the TCO of delivering the services. Pricing levels must be set to create the desired incentives for buyers

4.Define policies: Make sure that you have a basic set of policies in place with issues such as access, provisioning, security, compliance, data integration etc. Questions regarding who would be able to access it and what types of services you will need answered.

5.Launch and incubate: Create a separate organizational structure for delivering and supporting the new ITaaS model. Then launch the services to your market with the new management tools.
