Times are changing with VDI to DaaS

You might assume that Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and Desktop as a Service (DaaS) are two completely different features, when in fact they both have a lot in common. Some of the benefits that they both share include: increased flexibility and mobility, less complex desktop management and less hardware. The DaaS approach allows IT departments to outsource virtual desktops to your preferred cloud service provider. Although both options have a lot of similarities, there are differences to them as well, and although it may be difficult to choose between the two, we will help you decide which option is best to better your business.

One of the major differences between DaaS and VDI is that DaaS your IT department doesn’t have to worry about all of the technology and maintenance that may be required. If you have a third-party service provider, they will take care of any updates, installations, network issues, load balancing and any other areas that you would have to face if you didn’t rely on the cloud. Although, even though your provider will be doing the majority of the work for you, your IT department will still need to manage its virtual desktops, applications and clients.

If you’re looking to cut costs and don’t have in-house VDI expertise, then going with a DaaS solution may be the best choice for you. Cloud-hosted desktops can significantly cut costs and may be faster because they’re not behind a firewall. Since cloud-hosted desktops aren’t connected to servers within your data center, they become easier to move, upgrade and restore when or if failure occurs.

Despite the benefits of DaaS, there are reasons for hesitation as well. One issue for many organizations considering a DaaS solution is trust. Your IT department won’t have the same control over data that it does with a VDI environment and how your provider can keep your data safe and secure. Another difference between the two is the issue of licensing. Your cloud provider can provide you with a service level agreement (SLA) but the business will needs its own Windows licenses per user.
