Last week, I ordered my iPhone 6 Plus and I’ve been eagerly awaiting its arrival on my doorstep. After bragging about my purchase to a few friends, however, I got worried pretty fast.
“It bends!”
That is what I got in response from a number of people in addition to hearing about the laughable defect in the news. With my dreams of a perfect shiny new iPhone 6 Plus in jeopardy, I did some digging and got some pretty good answers!
So, does the iPhone 6 bend? The answer: it’s possible, but not likely.
As with any other slim electronic device made out of flexible aluminum, the phone will definitely bend in cases of EXTREME pressure or abuse. According to this report by Marques Brownlee, many other phones including the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 bent under extreme pressure as well.
I found that the majority of cases of bent iPhones are people using olympic-crushing strength to bend the phones for views or sitting on them irregularly which would damage practically anything.
If you watch the CNN bend test below, it’s pretty comical watching Samuel Burke on CNNMoney trying with all his might to bend the phone, even placing it in his pocket for a few drop kicks without being able to bend anything.
The bottom line is that if you just handle your iPhone 6 Plus like normal person, you shouldn’t have any problems. For those who are still paranoid, Wired Mag suggests sitting with the phone face-up in your front pocket for the least chance of damage.
Great! Now I feel much better. Of course I can always test it myself when my phone arrives or even better, I can ask Siri like Samuel Burke did…
Burke: “Siri, are you bendable?”
Siri: “No comment.”
