Being able to effectively transport multiple phone conversations over long distances through just one single line, is more efficient and overall a financially better option for your company. Depending on your size and the needs of your business, investing in either a Primary Rate Interface (PRI) line or a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) line are two options to help better your business, increase productivity and allow you to better manage your overall business communications. The idea of telephone trunking can vary based on your business needs and can potentially save your company IT budget a lot each month. If you’re not sure what the difference is between the two or can’t decide which option is best for your business, then let’s break the two of them down and figure it out together.
This option for transmitting data and voice communications is an older alternative and is based on the use of T1 lines. If you don’t already have a T1 line those telephone circuits would need to be installed. PRI allows a larger amount of voice lines to be used at once. It is based off of channels 23 voice channels and a D-channel, whereas there is only 1 with SIP. PRI could potentially be a more costly option because of that feature, but it does become a more attractive option for larger businesses. Although, PRI doesn’t involve some of the latest technologies and features such as IM-call screening and third-party interfacing that SIP has to offer, so if those features are important to you, than PRI may not be the best option for your business.
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
SIP trunking will allow your business to connect with outside organizations as well as its inter-office communications. It typically will use the same internet access used for data. Your provider will install the SIP trunk line and will eliminate having the physical phone wires laying around that you would have with an older telephone system. SIP trunking will automatically utilize your installed IP-PBXs. Overall SIP is a more cost-effective solution and only requires three different parts that are needed to employ this option. You’ll need a phone system that has a trunk side, an enterprise edge device, and the proper provider that AeroCom can help you find!
The size of your business, your needs and your budget are going to contribute to the main factors that decide whether or not a PRI line or SIP trunking is the best option for you. Both options will result in increased productivity and easy accessibility to interact with your outside client’s right from your office.
