Is it Safer to Use Two AnitVirus Programs?

rp_2-AV.pngOur main objective is to stay safe and protected. When it comes to Cloud Antivirus, we can apply the great aphorism, less is more.

The only reason you would ever run two antivirus software programs on the same machine is if it was severely corrupted. When you have two different Cloud Antivirus programs operating at the same time, your internet connection may be drastically impaired. Don’t be fooled by the scanners with a “manual search command,” these can still conflict with your current AV and send a barrage of unusual error messages.

When utilizing two different AV programs, it is important to remember that each program will operate differently. All of your files will be scanned simultaneously and you may find your two AV programs are incompatible.

Program One may use decrypted search strings while Program Two utilizes an entirely different cipher. Program One may begin repairing fragments of a file while Program Two refuses to support Program One’s ongoing quarantine. It is easy to over-complicate matters, bring about unnecessary stress and waste a great deal of time all for the sake of security redundancy.

IT professional Lincoln Spector, contributing editor at PC World, comically puts it, “Running two antivirus programs simultaneously is a bit like mixing a fine, vintage Cabernet with breakfast cereal. Each is good on its own right, but the combination may have unpleasant effects.”

However… If you are truly worried that one antivirus program isn’t enough, you do have another option.  A great alternative is to build a bigger web defense. You can install different security appliances, such as web filtering or firewalls. Building a web defense will increase your security without hindering your Antivirus’ performance.
