Smartphones have become a vital part of our everyday lives.<\/strong><\/em> We use them for keeping in touch with family and friends, staying updated on the latest news, and for scheduling appointments or business reminders. Without them, we feel lost \u2013 so much to the point that we sleep with them by our bedsides. Admit it\u2026your phone is probably the last thing you look at when you go to sleep and the first thing you see when you wake up.<\/p>\n

Well now Motorola<\/span><\/a> is changing the way you interact with that small gadget in your hand.<\/strong><\/em> Normally, to unlock your phone you have to enter a code or swipe pattern \u2013 not anymore. Moto X users will be able to access their phones via a new digital tattoo, created by Google\u2019s Advanced Technology and Projects group and VivaLnk Inc.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The small tattoo is made of thin and flexible materials.<\/strong><\/em> It was created using VivaLnk\u2019s eSkinTM technology, and Moto X users can unlock their phones by simply touching their phone to the tattoo.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t worry, these are not permanent tattoos; but rather small adhesive stickers that are the size of a nickel and designed to look like small vortexes.<\/strong><\/em> These adhesives are made to last for a five day period; withstanding water activities and workout sweat. The tattoos come in packs of 10 (lasting about a month) and can be purchased online for $10.<\/p>\n

This eliminates the need for codes or patterns, while still allowing you to keep your information secure.<\/strong><\/em> According to Motorola, \u201cAn average user takes 2.3 seconds to unlock their phone and does this about 39 times a day \u2013 a process that some people find so inconvenient that they do not lock their phones at all. Using NFC technology, digital tattoos make it faster to safely unlock your phone anywhere without having to enter a password.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, this technology is exclusively available for the Moto X smartphone.<\/em> <\/strong>Motorola plans to offer additional sticker designs and make tattoos available for more devices in the future. Their concept is very similar to Apple\u2019s iPhone 5s fingerprint ID scanner that was introduced last year. Also, Samsung introduced hand gesture capabilities that also easily unlock mobile devices.<\/p>\n
