\nLITTLE ROCK (Press Release) \u2013 Verizon is expanding its wireless support in communities affected by Sunday\u2019s tornadoes that ravaged central Arkansas. Verizon has been providing wireless support to first responders and those impacted by the tornadoes and Tuesday morning expanded its disaster relief efforts in both communities. This includes added wireless communications capabilities and disaster relief vehicles where customers of any wireless carrier can make calls, charge a variety of phones from any carrier and connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n
The company also announced that it is waiving overage charges for voice, data and text use for the entire month of May for customers in the impacted areas around Mayflower and Vilonia (ZIP codes 72034, 72032, 72106 and 72173).<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are the times when communication is most important, during an emergency,\u201d said Kristi Crum, president of Verizon Wireless in Arkansas. \u201cOur network is performing strong and we are supporting customers of all carriers with phones and other devices they need to stay connected to family and friends. We\u2019re also proud to support the first responders and volunteers who are tirelessly leading relief efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n
Monday, Verizon deployed a disaster response team to assist residents and emergency officials who need wireless support. The company also added capacity to its network to allow for the increased wireless traffic that occurs during and after an emergency. In a disaster when call volumes are high, customers are always encouraged to use text messaging to communicate.<\/p>\n
Mobile charging stations will be at the following locations from 10 a.m. to dusk, or as long as needed to provide the community with on-site emergency phones, multiple charging stations and Wi-Fi support. These are open to customers of any wireless carrier and will be in place for as many days as needed:<\/p>\n
