First \u2014 if you&#8217;re a medium to large size company purchasing Teams Phone System, you want to use an Operator Connect provider for your calling plan. Not direct routing, not direct routing as a service through an MSP. Operator Connect is the way to go. Watch my other videos on that topic for a full explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second \u2014 Teams Phone System pricing always has two components: licensing and a calling plan. I&#8217;ve covered licensing in other videos. Today I&#8217;m focusing entirely on the calling plan side of the pricing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Two Types of Calling Plan Pricing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to Teams Phone System calling plan pricing for medium to large size companies, there are two models to understand: flat rate pricing and call path based pricing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flat rate pricing is straightforward \u2014 you pay a set monthly fee for every single user. A typical flat rate calling plan runs around $6 per month per user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Call path based pricing works differently. Instead of paying per user, you pay based on the maximum number of simultaneous calls your company makes at its busiest time. Call path pricing runs approximately $20 per month per simultaneous call path, plus $1 per month per user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Real Example: 1,000 Employee Company<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s break this down with a real example so the numbers make sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assume your company has 1,000 employees. With flat rate pricing at $6 per user per month, your calling plan costs $6,000 per month \u2014 straightforward math.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let&#8217;s look at call path based pricing for the same company. Out of 1,000 employees, let&#8217;s say only 100 are ever on the phone simultaneously at your busiest time. That&#8217;s common for medium to large size companies today \u2014 a lot of communication happens over Teams instant messaging and email, so employees aren&#8217;t on the phone as much as you might expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With call path pricing, you pay for 100 call paths at $20 per month \u2014 that&#8217;s $2,000. Then you add $1 per user for 1,000 users \u2014 that&#8217;s $1,000. Total: $3,000 per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compare that to flat rate: $6,000 per month versus $3,000 per month. Call path based pricing is half the price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who Is Call Path Based Pricing Right For?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Call path based pricing is exclusively for medium to large size companies. Most Operator Connect vendors require a minimum of around 1,000 users before they&#8217;ll offer call path based pricing \u2014 so if your company has fewer than that, this model likely isn&#8217;t available to you and flat rate is the way to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your company has a call center, that&#8217;s a separate conversation entirely \u2014 Teams Phone System handles your regular users, and your call center is priced and managed separately. Call path pricing only applies to your standard Teams Phone users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Which Operator Connect Vendors Offer Call Path Based Pricing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are over 100 Operator Connect vendors out there and you definitely don&#8217;t want to start calling all of them asking about call path based pricing on your own.
