Are Hosted Server Web Portals Really this Bad?

This Thursday morning was productive – I actually got to the gym.  Then I got back home in time to help my wife get our four kids fed, lunches packed and off to school…AND got to the office around 8:00AM with a Venti Pike Place Roast in hand.

But then… I was brought to my knees.  Before the clock struck 10:00AM, I attended four different product trainings from four different cloud and telecom service providers.

Why do I continue to expose myself to death by webinar?  Each webinar is packed full of people who forgot to mute their phone.

I am training to aid my IT Jedi’s (that’s YOU), when called upon.  If you are having a challenge, I need to get you, IT Directors and Systems Administrators, to the two or three best solutions quickly so you can get back to doing great work for your company.mike funny

So what did I learn today?

The first service provider was explaining the 5 features that make their Hosted “Cloud” Server web portal better than the biggest names in the market.

  1. Price Transparency

They show the itemized price of each incremental item, as you add it.  For instance, as you are building your custom server, you can see how much each incremental feature costs, so you can decide if you want that much storage, etc.  No more being blind about pricing until the server is already built!

  1. Server Organization

Group servers together, nationwide, regardless of which data center the server is sitting in.

  1. Automation

Automatically schedule automatic actions (power cycling, etc.), on a group level, across multiple servers.

  1. At a Glance Health Check

When you first login, you can check the health status of all servers and see all alerts, for all servers, on one screen.  You do not have to navigate to each individual server to see the alerts for that particular machine.

  1. Flexible Provisioning

This hosted server provider allows you to provision each feature of the server in a custom manner, in any increment you want.
